Discussion of the concept of democratic oversight over Ukrainian Army takes place in Dnipro
On September 26, 2017 Dnipro hosted the second round table on the Concept of Strengthening the Democratic Control over the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Representatives of the OSCE, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the I. Chernyakhovskyi National University of Defense of Ukraine, Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Tatyana Rychkova and experts of the Reforms Project Office of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine participated in the round table on the part of the organizers. Representatives of the Dnipropetrovsk community, including Deputy Chairman of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration Kamil Prymakov and about 50 other participants (public figures, volunteers, representatives of various public organizations and associations) joined the discussion.
The discussion of the Concept was constructive and substantive. The participants showed considerable interest in issues related to democratic civilian control over the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The greatest questions was raised by the issue of strengthening the protection of the rights of servicemen, in particular the mechanisms for processing requests, appeals and complaints. Comments and suggestions of the participants of the roundtable will be taken into account and included in the draft of the Concept.
The next discussion of the Concept will be held in Odessa on October 10.
